What Cosmetic Dentists Can Do for You
Cosmetic dentistry services offer an opportunity to change the aesthetic quality of your smile. There are several procedures and services we offer at our Vancouver office, including dental bonding, dental veneers, dental crowns, teeth whitening, and Invisalign.
One way that we can make your teeth look amazing is with a dental bonding treatment. If you have cracks or chips in your teeth, they can be fixed through dental bonding. Bonding is a substance that comes in many different shades of white. We simply apply the bonding to your teeth and use a UV light to harden it. Once the bonding has been applied, your bonded tooth looks as good as new.
For example, many people have a gap between their two front teeth, and they want to get rid of the gap. We can apply bonding to the teeth and the gap is magically erased.
Dental bonding is a great way to touch up minor imperfections as well. If you have a discolored or chipped tooth, we can fix that with bonding as well. Bonding is perfect if you only need to fix one or two of your teeth.
What if you have a lot of teeth that have issues and need repair? For those teeth, bonding isn't really practical. You may want to think about getting dental veneers. Veneers are shells that fit over your natural teeth. They are made of porcelain, so they look like your natural teeth.
You can choose to get veneers over your upper teeth, your lower teeth, or over all of your teeth. Veneers can cover a lot of different issues with one application. If you have a couple of teeth that are cracked, and a broken tooth, along with a couple of teeth that are misshapen, dental veneers can fix all of those problems at once.
Getting veneers is a relatively minimal time-commitment considering the scope of the changes to your smile. Your first appointment will be spent discussing what you want your dream smile to look like, working together to decide even the smallest detail of your veneers.
Afterward, we will sculpt the teeth that will be veneered and attach a temporary set until your permanent veneers are done. It takes time to create each set of veneers because each one is wholly unique. When completed, we will swap out your temporary set for the permanent ones, bond them, and make any final polishes until you are completely satisfied.
Dental Crowns
If you have one tooth or a couple of teeth that are not shaped right, or they are severely damaged, you may want to think about crowning those teeth. A dental crown, or tooth crown is made of porcelain over a metal cap, which makes the tooth stronger as well as better looking.
Dental crowns can be used if your tooth is a different color due to injury or medication as well. If your tooth is cracked or broken, a crown can protect what's left of the tooth, as well as cover the tooth. You can get one dental crown, or several crowns if you need them.
Having a crown or procedure requires the patient to come to our office on two separate occasions. The first visit consists of having an impression made of your teeth, having the tooth prepped to receive the crown, and the placement of a temporary crown.
During the second visit we place the permanent crown on the tooth. It is important that you give the temporary decent care during the time you have it because it serves an important purpose.
There are numerous teeth whitening products that are widely available, aimed at restoring the brilliant white to your discolored teeth. Professional whitening is an excellent option for those who have deeper stains, or who want results faster.
In-office teeth whitening is completed in about an hour, and results are noticeable right away. Professional whitening trays can also be used in the comfort of your own home, and the results are visible in about one week. Professional whitening products and trays work better than store-bought whitening products as the chemicals we use are stronger and faster-acting.
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that is used to straighten your teeth and give you a more attractive smile. It can help individuals with mild to severe misalignment, as well as correct their bite. The procedure involves clear plastic aligner trays that can gently bring teeth into their correct position over time.
To straighten your teeth, Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners. These are made from a specific type of medical-grade plastic, and then they are crafted from pictures and computer imprints taken from your mouth by our team.
While conventional alignment methods, like braces, use fixed wires to force your teeth into alignment, the Invisalign procedure uses its different molds that, over the course of many months, will push your teeth into their correct position, slowly and painlessly.
In contrast with common braces, Invisalign clear dental aligners can be easily removed for cleaning or eating, although patients must still use them multiple hours per day in order for the treatment to be efficient. This feature allows patients to maintain their dental health and well being by flossing and brushing as usual.
